Twenty-eight imported luxury cars, belonging to business house Jaypee, have been seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on charges of tax evasion amounting to crores of rupees, said DRI sources.
DRI officials seized the cars, mostly Toyota, from the Jaypee Greens Golf Course and Club of Jaypee group in Greater Noida on Saturday evening after the business house failed to pay Rs 2.5 crore as import duty, the sources said. When contacted, Jaypee group Managing Director Manoj Gaur said that the import of the cars was fully in accordance with the law and fulfilled the eligibility criteria.
