Govt still talking to cement makers on price cut

Junior industry minister Ashwani Kumar said on Friday that cement makers had been asked to cut prices and talks were still taking place. "They have been told to moderate prices," Kumar said. India raised excise duties on some cement in last week's budget for 2007/08, prompting firms to increase prices by 10-12 rupees per 50 kg bag in some states.

India will soon join hands with others nations to construct the Trans Asian Railway connecting vast parts of Europe and Asia. A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday night, approved the signing and ratification of an inter-governmental agreement on Trans Asian Railway.
